Robert Crane’s life changed forever on the afternoon of Thursday, June 29, 1978, when he was summoned to the crime scene in Scottsdale, Arizona and identify his father’s body after Bob Cranewas found brutally slain in an apartment in Scottsdale, Arizona — a murder that remains unsolved to this day. And while Robert Crane will always be linked to that tragedy, and the fallout surrounding the positive and sordid sides of his father, he has also carved out a successful career as a freelance author and journalist for such publications as Playboy, Oui and the Los Angeles Times, as well as six years as a publicist, producer and confidant to actor John Candy.

Robert Crane shares in his story in a new book, CRANE: Sex, Celebrity and My Father’s Unsolved Murder, which he co-authored along with his longtime collaborator, Christopher Fryer. A memoir of growing up with Bob Crane as a father before, during and after Hogan’s Heroes, the book not only provides a first-person account and commentary of how authorities handled the investigation and prosecution of the Bob Crane murder case, but tells the story of Robert’s own life, and his desire to find love and permanence in a life where those things continually slip away. Robert Crane joins us in the studio in our second hour.
