Anne Serling, daughter of Rod Serling, joins Joseph Dougherty, Dan Farren, Tony Figueroa and Ed for a special roundtable discussion on the legacy of Rod Serling, his impact on three generations of television writers, and episodes of Twilight Zone and Night Gallery that continue to stay with us. Anne’s book, As I Knew Him: My Dad, Rod Serling, is a poignant memoir of growing up with Rod Serling that also humanizes the man whom many of us think of as an icon. The panel discussion begins about forty minutes into the first hour and continues until the end of the program. Also this week: Tony, Ed and Donna Allen remember the legacy of The Mary Tyler Moore Show.

First hour: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen remember the births of Richard Pryor, Keith Thibodeaux (“Little Ricky”) and Bette Midler, and the sale of RCA to General Electric, as part of This Week in TV History. Second hour: Author Paul Green helps Ed revisit the life and career of Pete Duel, the star of Alias Smith and Jones who took his life on Dec. 30, 1971, at the height of his television celebrity. Paul recently updated his book Pete Duel: A Biography with new information from not only Duel’s family and friends, but the many fans who have kept the memory of Duel alive, more than four decades after his death. Also in this hour: Tony and Donna remember the thirty-fifth anniversary of the death of John Lennon, while Ed plays an excerpt from his December 2010 conversation with Keith Eliot Greenberg, author of Dec. 8, 1980: The Day John Lennon Died.
