Film historian Douglas Brode returns this week for a look at what he calls the Golden Age of Wicked Women in the movies: the twenty-year period from the start of the 1960s through the end of the 1970s that coincided with the sexual revolution throughout the Western world and shifting mores in movies in general. During this time we saw a host of femme fatales dominate the screen not only in B-movies and exploitation flicks such as Invasion of the Bee Girls, Too Hot to Handle, Queen of Blood, Prehistoric Women, The Million Eyes of Su-Maru and Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!, but also Hollywood A-movies (such as the James Bond films) and international cinema (including Emmanuelle and In the Realm of the Senses).

Doug’s latest book, Deadlier Than the Male: Femme Fatales of 1960s and 1970s Cinema, not only explores this phenomenon, but profiles nearly 100 actresses who achieved cult status as a result of these films, including Joan Collins, Julie Newmar, Martine Beswick, Anitra Ford, Sybil Danning, Tura Satana, Celeste Yarnell and Victoria Vetri. The book also includes more than 300 photographs (many of which are rarely seen), plus previously unknown details about the lives of these actresses, and other essential information. Douglas Brode will join us in our second hour.

Our first hour will include a tribute to Abe Vigoda as part of This Week in TV History, plus a new DVD report.
