This Week in Television History: November 2016 PART III

As always, the further we go back in Hollywood history,
the more that fact and legend become intertwined.
It's hard to say where the truth really lies.

November 15, 1926
NBC radio network's grand opening. The NBC Red Network debuts, celebrating its launch with one of the earliest remote musical broadcasts. The debut program featured nationally known bands playing at several different locations.

November 16, 1916
Daws Butler is born.
Charles Dawson "Daws" Butler (November 16, 1916 – May 18, 1988) was an American voice actor who specialized in voicing animated films and television series. 

He worked mostly for the Hanna-Barbera animation production company where he originated the voices of many familiar characters, including Yogi BearQuick Draw McGrawSnagglepuss, and Huckleberry Hound.

November 16, 1946
Television Screen Magazine launches. The show, one of NBC's first network series, included a collection of features on news, lifestyles, fashion, and other topics. The show ran until 1949. In 1968, CBS revived the TV magazine concept with 60 Minutes, which became one of the country's Top 10 shows in 1977 and stayed in the Top 20 for more than 20 years.

November 16, 1981
Luke and Laura got married on General Hospital. 
One of television’s most famous wedding celebrations took place, with General Hospital‘s Luke and Laura saying “I do” in front of 30 million viewers.

The two-day event remains one of the most iconic moments in daytime television history, and brought stars Anthony Geary and Genie Francis instant mainstream celebrity. The rocky relationship of Luke and Laura also helped to create a template for other soap “supercouples,” combining adventure, tragedy and romance.

November 19, 1941
Dan Haggerty is born. 
He is best known as Grizzly Adams in the title role of the 1974 Sunn Classic Pictures feature, The Life and Times of Grizzly Adams. From this feature film evolved the NBC television series which ran from 1977 to 1978, and Haggerty became known to movie-goers for his portrayal of nature-loving John “Grizzly” Adams.

To quote the Bicentennial Minute, "And that's the way it was".
