Our second hour will include a return appearance from Alison Arngrim, the actress known around the world as Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prairie.

Alison will be among the many celebrities and former child stars who will be bowling for a good cause at the First Annual Guiding Star Gala benefiting A Minor Consideration, the excellent organization founded by Paul Peterson that provides guidance and support to young performers, past, present and future. The event takes place Sunday, Aug. 30 at Lucky Strike Live, 6801 Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood, CA, and is open to the public. For more information, call (323) 467-7776 or go to http://www.bowlluckystrike.com/locations/california/hollywood

Alison will also be conducting another Nasty Nellie Oleson Tour of Hollywood on Sept. 6. If you’ve read Alison’s memoir, Confessions of a Prairie Bitch, or seen her one-woman show, you know that she grew up in Hollywood (and lived to tell about it). This is an opportunity to see Hollywood from a real insider’s perspective. Plus, it’s the only tour of Hollywood that stops for milkshakes! For more information, go to http://www.zerve.com/DDTours/

Also joining us this week will be Richard Sherman and Milt Larsen. Most of you know that Richard (along with his late brother, Robert Sherman), wrote more songs than any other songwriting team in motion picture history, including words and music for Mary Poppins and dozens of other movies for Walt Disney Pictures, while Milt Larson is known around the world as the founder of the Magic Castle, the private club for magicians that’s also been featured in dozens of movies and TV shows. What you may not know is that Richard and Milt have also been writing comedy songs together for the past six decades—including Smash Flops and Bad Barber Shop Ballads, both of which are collections of songs that just missed being smash hits due to unfortunate timing.

Originally released in the 1960s, many of the songs in Smash Flops and Bad Barber Shop Ballads are still remarkably timely today, while the remastered edition of Smash Flops also includes two new Sherman and Larsen songs, “The Palin for President Polka” (sung by Palin fans who won't give up) and “The Fracking Song” (sung by hard-hatted Friends of Fracking). Richard Sherman and Milt Larsen will join us in our first hour.

Plus: Phil Gries with Part 2 of our three-part tribute to the early broadcast career of Hall of Fame announcer Vin Scully.
