I first knew of Tom Snyder when Dan Aykroyd's did his impersonation of Mr. Snyder on Saturday Night Live. Tom Snyder was a news anchor, radio host and was best known for his late night talk shows The Tomorrow Show on NBC and The Late Late Show, on the CBS.
There will never be another like Tom Snyder. His pace and style were part of a generation with a longer attention span.
To quote Tom Snyder "I learned a long time ago that if you bet on yourself, you win. If you bet on others, you lose."
Good Night Mr. Snyder

I represent the first generation who, when we were born, the television was now a permanent fixture in our homes. When I was born people had breakfast with Barbara Walters, dinner with Walter Cronkite, and slept with Johnny Carson. Read the full "Pre-ramble"

Charles Lane 1905 - 2007
Character actor Charles Lane died at the age of 102. Mr. Lane, whose career spanned more than 60 years, was best known for playing a crotchety old man. He appeared in movies like It's a Wonderful Life, Mr. Deeds Goes to Town and Twentieth Century. On television he had a recurring role as the scheming railroad man, Homer Bedloe, on the sitcom Petticoat Junction. He also appeared in episodes of Perry Mason, The Twilight Zone, The Munsters and I Love Lucy. It is also noteworthy that Mr. Lane was a founding member of the Screen Actors Guild.
Lane continued to act into his 90s. Two years ago, the TV Land Awards paid tribute to Mr. Lane by celebrating his 100th birthday. After the audience sang Happy Birthday, Lane was presented with his award and then announced, "If you're interested, I'm still available!"
