David is the author of FUNNY: THE BOOK: Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Comedy, an entertaining look at the art of comedy from every conceivable angle: historical, musical, psychological, philosophical and everything in between. David’s book also explores comedy from the worlds of movies, television and stand-up, including the impact of such iconic comedians as Buster Keaton, Groucho Marx, Richard Pryor, Steve Martin, Robin Williams and Woody Allen, as well as answers the eternal question “Why are fart jokes funny?” We’ll learn the answer to that, a whole lot more, when David Misch joins us in our second hour.
David Misch will be presenting A Brief History of Timing: A Comedy Chronicle at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in Los Angeles on Sunday, June 24 beginning at 2pm. Tickets are free, but reservations are recommended. Call (877) 722-4849. David will also be appearing at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood on Thursday, July 26 beginning at 7pm. For more information, go to the Author Events page at BookSoup.com.
Don Kirschner also left his mark on television: he developed The Monkees and created The Archies in the 1960s before bringing rock n roll to late night television in the 1970s with Don Kirschner’s Rock Concert. We will talk about the legacy of Don Kirschner, not to mention the stories behind so many of these great songs, when Rich Podolsky joins us in our first hour.
Rich Podolksy will be appearing at Book Soup, 8818 Sunset Blvd. in West Hollywood on Sunday, July 22 beginning at 4pm. For more information, go to the Author Events page at BookSoup.com.
