Known for his appearances in such films as Rosemary’s Baby, Catch-22, Midnight Run, The Heartbreak Kid, Seems Like Old Times, and the Beethoven movies — as well as his popular CNBC talk show, his daily commentaries for CBS Radio, and his numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, The Late Show with David Letterman and other late-night talk shows — Charles Grodin recently released a new DVD, called The Perils of Show Business: Proceed at Your Own Risk, that offers hands-on, straight-shooting, real world advice about acting schools, the audition process, the world of agents, and many other things that one must know when considering a career in show business.

Alan Alda once said that when Charles Grodin plays a character, no matter how funny that character might be, he is “relentlessly honest, detailed, and probing.” So it’s no surprise that Charles takes that same approach as an instructor in The Perils of Show Business. Designed particularly with young people in mind, the hour-long DVD provides a clear picture of what to expect in an often unstable industry — all presented in the wry, straightforward and humorous style for which Charles is known. We’ll talk about The Perils of Show Business, and whatever else is on Charles’ mind, when he joins us in our second hour.

All of Charles Grodin’s earnings from the sales of the Perils of Show Business DVD will be donated to The Lend a Hand Foundation, a nonprofit organization that Charles started to help people in need who are not covered by any other organization. Click here for more information.

Also joining us this week will be music executive, producer, and author Ron Eckerman. Ron’s company, Clearlight Enterprises, toured with many of the top bands of the 1970s, including Fleetwood Mac, Peter Frampton, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. Then in 1976, Ron began a two-year association as tour manager of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd, during which time he witnessed the band’s meteoric rise to fame — and, unfortunately, the plane crash on Oct. 20, 1977 that took the lives of many of the original band members, including front man Ronnie Van Zant.

Ron Eckerman captures the personalities of Ronnie Van Zant and the other characters of the original Lynyrd Skynyrd in Turn It Up! Life, Love and Death: Southern Style, an excellent book filled with great stories that capture the often crazy nature of life on the road with a major rock band. Ron will share some of his memories with us when he joins us in our first hour.

Turn It Up is available in paperback, as an audiobook, and as an e-Book. If you order the paperback or audiobook editions directly through TurnItUpBook.com, Ron will have the book gift-wrapped and shipped to you absolutely free. This special offer is available through Christmas, and applies only to shipping destinations in the United States. In addition, if you are a military veteran, or are on active duty, you can get a free copy of the e-Book version of Turn It Up emailed directly to you through Christmas. That is Ron’s way of saying thank you this holiday season to those have served this country. For more information, go to TurnItUpBook.com.
