Show No. 163
Dec. 5-11, 2012 |
First hour: TV Confidential remembers the life and career of
Larry
Hagman along with actor Bill
Daily, who co-starred with Hagman and Barbara Eden for five
years on I Dream of Jeannie.
Also in this hour: Ed welcomes Bob Leszczak, author of
Single Season Sitcoms, 1948-1979: A Complete
Guide, a behind-the-scenes look at notable shows from the
first three decades of television that ran for only one season or less. Among
the shows Bob discusses in his book are the two comedy series that Larry Hagman
starred in after Jeannie, but before Dallas: The Good Life (NBC,
1971) and Here We Go Again (ABC, 1973). Plus: Tony Figueroa and Donna
Allen with a look at how both Dallas and Jeannie reflected our
culture in their own way.
Second hour: Television director Michael Preece joins Ed this hour as TV Confidential continues its tribute to Larry Hagman. Michael not only directed more episodes of the original Dallas than any director, but had a hand in just about every major cliffhanger of Dallas, going back to Who Shot J.R.? Also in this hour: Greg Ehrbar with a look at some of Hagman's other notable film and TV work; an excerpt from a November 2004 interview with author Barbara Curran (25 Years of Dallas) about Larry Hagman that Ed conducted jointly with talk show host Ronn Owens on The Ronn Owens Program; and a discussion about how the new Dallas on TNT might proceed in the wake of Hagman's death. |
