Monty Hall, of course, is the co-creator, executive producer and original host of Let’s Make a Deal, the iconic TV game show that not only recently celebrated its 50th anniversary on television in 2013, but is still going strong today, as evidenced by the current version of Let’s Make a Deal on CBS daytime hosted by Wayne Brady.
Monty will be honored by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences with its prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award during the 40th Annual Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Awards, which airs Sunday, June 16 on HLN. We’ll ask Monty why Let’s Make a Deal still appeals to audiences today, but we’ll also talk about his early career in radio and television… and maybe ask a question or two about his famous appearances with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman on The Odd Couple. Monty Hall will join us in our second hour.
Also joining us this week will be Jane Press, an actress and playwright who has spent nearly her entire life in show business: Her mother Della was a stage and film actress, while her uncle Lester Colodny was an Emmy Award-winning writer, director and producer who worked with Mel Brooks, Neil Simon, Woody Allen and Frank Sinatra. Jane’s latest play, My Mother’s Keeper, is a semi-autobiographical story that traces the mother/daughter dynamic of four generations of a show business family. We’ll talk about the play, and more, when Jane Press joins us during our first hour.For our listeners in Southern California, My Mother’s Keeper will be performing at the Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Avenue in Venice, California through Sunday 6/16. Lindsay Wagner of The Bionic Woman said "The play was wonderful!" while Hugh O’Brian (The Life and Legend of Wyatt Earp) said My Mother’s Keeper is "Well written, well directed and extremely well performed."
