Many of us know Mayim Bialik for playing Amy Farrah Fowler, Sheldon’s “friend who is a girl” on The Big Bang Theory, as well as her starring role in the 1990s NBC sitcom Blossom. What you may not know about Mayim is that she took about ten years away from show business to get married, start a family and earn her Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA. Like every parent, Mayim made choices — and among the choices she made was to raise her children according to a different, and somewhat controversial, method known as attachment parenting.
Mayim writes about her experience in a new book, Beyond the Sling, in which she not only provides a practical, and very personal, approach to attachment parenting, but supports her findings with solid medical and psychological research. We’ll talk about Beyond the Sling, but we’ll also ask Mayim about her experience on The Big Bang Theory, Blossom, Curb Your Enthusiasm and some of her other acting roles when she joins us in our second hour.
Mayim Bialik has several appearances lined up over the next few weeks, including Tuesday, Mar. 6 at the Barnes and Noble / Tribeca, 97 Warren Street at Greenwich Street, in New York City, beginning at 6pm; Tuesday, Mar. 13, at the Barnes and Noble at 1201 Third Street, in Santa Monica, beginning at 7pm; Thursday, Mar. 15 at Vroman’s Bookstore, 695 E. Colorado Blvd. in Pasadena, beginning at 7pm; and Sunday, Mar. 18 at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Blvd. in Los Angeles, beginning at 2pm.
Also joining us this week will be actress/director Michelle Danner, founder and artistic director at the Edgemar Center of the Arts in Santa Monica, and one of the most successful acting coaches in the film and TV industry. We’ll talk about Michelle’s approach to acting, as well as her work with such as stars as Rob Estes, Jason Alexander, Christian Slater and Zooey Deschanel, when she also joins us in our second hour.
Michelle Danner will be starring in a modern-day stage adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s Ghosts at the Second Stage Theater at the Edgemar Center for the Arts, 2437 Main Street in Santa Monica, from Mar. 17 through May 12. For tickets and more information, call (310) 392-7327 or go to www.edgemarcenter.org.
Also this week, we’ll pay tribute to Davy Jones and the legacy of The Monkees when musician and DVD producer Bill Funt joins us in our first hour. Plus: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen with a brand new edition of This Week in TV History.
