We will revisit the days of the original Mickey Mouse Club this week as we replay our conversation with author Jennifer Armstrong. Jennifer’s book, Why? Because We Still Like You: An Oral History of The Mickey Mouse Club, not only features interviews with such iconic Mouseketeers as Cubby O’Brien, Lonnie Burr, Doreen Tracey, Darlene Gillespie, and Annette Funicello, but also shows why The Mickey Mouse Club remains one of the most iconic television programs ever made, more than fifty years later.

One of the other former Mouseketeers that Jennifer interviewed for her book was actor Don Grady, who went on to become a teenage heartthrob in the 1960s and early 1970s as one of the stars of My Three Sons. Don Grady passed away on June 27. An accomplished singer and composer, he began his career in music and television on The Mickey Mouse Club, which we’ll talk about in our second hour.

Our first hour will include an encore presentation with
filmmakers Jim Pasternak and Richard Marshall, the director and producer, respectively, of Certifiably Jonathan, a unique film that gives viewers a window into the brilliant comedic mind of Jonathan Winters. Known for his numerous appearances on The Tonight Show with Jack Paar and Johnny Carson, The Steve Allen Show, The Dean Martin Show, Rowan and Martin’s Laugh-In, Mork & Mindy, and such classic film as It’s A Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World and The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming, Winters also had a huge influence on such comedians as Bill Cosby, George Carlin, Richard Lewis and, most notably, Robin Williams. We’ll talk about what was like to collaborate with Jonathan Winters, his improvisational skills, and his ongoing impact on comedians today.
