The son of S. John Launer (the actor who played the judge on Perry Mason more than anyone else), Dale Launer got his first break as a writer after the producing team of Lancaster/Wagner optioned his screenplay of Ruthless People, which was produced and released in 1986. He also wrote the screenplay for Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, then later wrote and produced My Cousin Vinny — the now classic comedy that the American Bar Association considers one of the greatest legal movies ever made. Many law classes often point to My Cousin Vinny for its portrayal of legal procedure, while Dale’s character, Vincent Gambini, was once ranked among The 25 Greatest Fictional Lawyers Not Named Atticus Finch.

We will ask Dale about My Cousin Vinny, but we’ll also talk about some of the other issues that screenwriters face today, including the battle over possessory credits and the common misconception among the general public as to what a screenwriter actually does. Dale Launer will join us in our second hour.

Speaking of legal procedure, also joining us this week will be Lori Rassas. Recently featured on CNBC’s Power Lunch, Lori is an employment attorney, teacher and coach with close to two decades of experience representing both employers and employees in all aspects of employment relations. Earlier in her career, Lori was staff counsel for AFTRA, the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, so she has hands-on knowledge of many issues that artists face today. Her latest book is The Perpetual Paycheck: 5 Secrets to Getting a Job, Keeping a Job, .... Lori Rassas will join us in our first hour.
