Known to three generations of television viewers as David Vincent, the mild-mannered architect who tries to convince an unbelieving world that aliens from another planet are trying to take over the Earth, on the classic Quinn Martin series The Invaders, Roy Thinnes’ other television credits include General Hospital (as the original Dr. Phil Brewer), Ben Quick on the TV adaptation of The Long, Hot Summer, innovative psychiatrist Dr. Jim Whitman on The Psychiatrist, the dual roles of Roger Collins and Reverend Trask in the 1991 revival of Dark Shadows, and alien healer Jeremiah Smith in three iconic episodes of The X Files.

The X Files, of course, recently returned to FOX as a six-part miniseries, while there is a direct line between The X Files and The Invaders. We will ask Roy about both, but we’ll also talk about some of his early mentors (which include Quinn Martin, Frank Lovejoy and Emily McLaughlin), his interest in art and some of his other work in film and television. Roy Thinnes will join us by phone in our second hour.

Our first hour will feature Part 2 of our conversation with Emmy Award-winning writer/producer Joseph Dougherty (thirtysomething, Saving Grace, Pretty Little Liars) and television scholar Dan Farren (Story Salon) about the original Dragnet, how it came to shape police procedurals as we know them today, and the career of Jack Webb in general. Plus: a brand new edition of This Week in TV History.
