The
son of legendary comedian Buddy Hackett, Sandy
Hackett is one of the stars and producers of Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show, the
critically acclaimed musical tribute show that many consider to be the next best
thing to seeing Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr. and Joey Bishop in
their prime. Sandy not only plays Joey Bishop in the Rat Pack show... he knew
the real Joey Bishop, as well as worked with the real Frank, Sammy and Dean. We’ll talk about
that, and more, when Sandy joins us in our first hour, along with his wife,
singer/songwriter Lisa Dawn
Miller. The daughter of legendary songwriter Ron Miller, Lisa
co-produces the show with Sandy, and also appears in it as the character
“Frank’s One Love.”
Besides its permanent home base at the Las Vegas
Hilton, Sandy Hackett’s Rat Pack Show is about to take its act on the road, with
stops in more than 45 cities across the country as part of its 2011-2012 national theatre tour, including
venues in Niagara Falls, New York, Green Bay, Wisconsin; Dubuque, Iowa; Butte,
Montana; Aurora, Illinois; and Thousand Oaks, California. Tickets, tour updates
and more information is available online at SandysRatPackOnTour.com.
Phil Gries
will join us in our second hour for a special edition of the Sounds of Lost
Television that will commemorate the 50th anniversary of Oct. 1,
1961, the day on which Roger
Maris hit his 61st home run, surpassing Babe Ruth’s
record for most home runs in a Major League Baseball season.
We’ll not
only hear clips of the rarely heard television broadcast of Maris’ historic home
run, we’ll also talk about the various controversies that plagued Maris in 1961, as
well as hear audio from Roger Maris himself.
Also
joining us this week will be actress Tanna
Frederick (Queen of the Lot, Hollywood Dreams, Sylvia).
Tanna will be joining former world champion surfer Shaun Tomson in co-hosting
the Fourth Annual Project SOS: Save Our Surf: SURF
24, a celebrity surfathon in support of clean water and clean oceans around the world. Project SOS takes place Oct. 15 and 16 in Santa
Monica, and will benefit the global charities Waves
for Water and Tumelo
Home, as well as Santa Monica
Baykeeper and Inside the
Outdoors in Southern California. Celebrity surfers include Sam Trammell (True
Blood), Tate Donovan (Damages, The O.C.), John Slattery (Mad Men),
Jesse Spencer (House), Richard Burgi (Desperate Housewives),
Chad Lowe (24), Gregory Harrison (One Tree Hill, Trapper John,
M.D.), John Philbin (Point Break) and Kathy Zuckerman (Gidget).
For information on how to register, or to find out other ways in
which you can support Project SOS, check out ProjectSaveOurSurf.org.
Plus:
Stephen Battaglio, business editor for TV
Guide magazine, will help us sort through the first two
weeks of the new TV fall season: which shows are doing well so far, which ones
are in trouble, and what sort of midseason replacement series are on the
horizon.
It’s a full program as always... we certainly hope you’ll join
us.
