First hour: TV Confidential celebrates James Garner’s birthday by playing Part 2 of our conversation with Jon Winokur, co-author of The Garner Files, the story of Jim’s life and career in the motion picture industry. Topics include Garner's lifelong passion for auto racing, including the lengths he took while working with John Frankenheimer during the filming of Grand Prix. Also in this hour: a replay of our segment on “star car” researcher Jim Suva, a consultant on the PBS documentary series Pioneers of Television, Plus: Tony Figueroa and Donna Allen remember the premiere of Dateline NBC, the final appearance of Jack Paar on The Tonight Show, and other events that originally took place This Week in TV History.
Second hour: An encore presentation of our January 2011 conversation with actor and author Efrem Zimbalist Jr. (The F.B.I., 77 Sunset Strip, My Dinner of Herbs), which includes Efrem's memories of working with James Garner on Maverick, his daughter Stephanie Zimbalist on Remington Steele, and Montgomery Pittman and Leonid Kinsky on 77 Sunset Strip.
