Your Mental Sorbet: Remembering Edith

Here is another "Mental Sorbet" that we could use to momentarily forget about those things that leave a bad taste in our mouths.

From 1971 on the Sonny & Cher Comedy Hour. Carroll O'Connor singing the ending theme song of All in the Family. Roger Kellaway played the song EXACTLY the way it was played on All in the Family.

The Family Viewing Hour, which was in effect from 1975 thru 1977, was mandated by the FCC to have the networks show ONLY family-friendly programming from 8 to 9 PM ET, since there was too much sex and violence on the tube during those hours.. (This ruling was rescinded two years later, in 1977.) This ruling forced Norman Lear, creator of "All in the Family," to move the show from its 8 PM Sat. time slot to 9 PM on Monday nights. The cast of "All in the Family" did a little in-house "tribute" to the Family Viewing our, with their new "1975 version" of the show's opening theme song...and here it is! This clip never aired, it was only performed live before a studio audience.

At the grocery store, Edith has an accident in the parking lot. She loses control of her shopping cart which smashes into a car and a can of Cling Peaches (in heavy syrup) flies out of the cart, onto the car, and makes a dent.

In celebration of its first 100 episodes, Henry Fonda hosts a retrospective of the previous episodes .

This is the last appearance Carroll O'Connor and Jean Stapleton made together. This aired on April 24, 2000. Carroll passed away June 21, 2001. Jean passed away May 31, 2013.
