This week’s show will include an encore presentation of our January 2014 interview with Michael Gleason, the accomplished television writer/producer who died this past October 21 at the age of 78. Best known as the co-creator and executive producer of the long-running private eye series Remington Steele, Michael’s career in television also spans such genres as Westerns, comedy, made for TV movies, and miniseries, including such shows as Maverick, Peyton Place, Rawhide, Diagnosis Murder, Cannon, McCloud, Marcus Welby, M.D., The Six Million Dollar Man, Nash Bridges, Lois and Clark, Diagnosis Murder, Rich Man, Poor Man: Book Two and Sword of Justice. We’ll replay our conversation with Michael in its entirety in our second hour.
Also this week: We’ll pay tribute to Jack Riley, the actor best known as Elliot Carlin, the one patient that Dr. Bob Hartley could never quote cure, on The Bob Newhart Show. As Bob Newhart himself once noted, whenever the writers on The Bob Newhart Show had a new neurosis that they wanted to introduce, they almost always gave it to Carlin “because Jack could do anything.” Jack Riley passed away on August 19 of this year, at the age of 80. We’ll pay remember his work in television, including his career as a voice artist, as part of our first hour.
